Camping at Patagonia Lake

While it may be small, Patagonia Lake offers some of the best fishing and kayaking in Arizona.

You can even take a small motor boat out on the water without disturbing the fish or other campers.  Darren and I have seen the area grow substantially in the last few years, with fantastic new amenities popping up every year.  The campsites have also grown considerably with the development of little cabins for rent.  PRO TIP – This is the perfect solution for friends without campers.  Now everyone can have enough space and still enjoy the outdoors!

I have to mention the amazing work done of the boat docks.  The spacious design allows for multiple watercraft to enter from different angles, clearing congestion and making the daunting task of launching your boat less of hassle.  If you really want an adventure, get a jet ski from the boat rental store and hit the waves in style!

Visit the Towns of Patagonia, Elgin and Sonoita

One of the greatest things about camping at Patagonia is the close proximity to the town of Patagonia, which you drive through if you are coming from Tucson.  But don’t just drive through, be sure to stop by Velvet Elvis Pizza Company for the best calzone you can get this side of Italy.  Just wait until you check out the deserts!

Patagonia is also a stone-throw away from some great wine country, including Elgin and Sonoita.  If you take a day trip to Sonoita, check out Deep Sky and Twisted Union taprooms for a wonderful wine-tasting experience.  If that’s not enough, be sure to visit any one of the 30-plus wineries in that one area!

This will be one packed weekend!  With so much to do and so little time, start planning today for your next camping trip to Patagonia, with a short layover in Elgin, and tell them Tony Ray sent you 😎
