Tohono Chul Park and Tea Room became dedicated officially in 1985. The goal of the park was to help educate people on the native people, wildlife, and desert beauty found on the 37-acre estate surrounded by the hustle and bustle of busy city life. In 1979, The Haunted Book shop, located on the east side of Tohono Chul opened.

Tohono Chul Park

Tony Ray took his brother and sister there many times and fondly remembers the “ant crossing” in front of the entrance.

The park itself is mostly run by volunteers and when you go to visit the park and take the tour, you can access a personal tour via your cell phone. Just pick up a card at Admissions that will tell you how to access your tour and when you call the number, viola, a personal tour!

They offer tours and informative sessions on every subject relating to the desert that you can possibly think of, including why lizards do pushups. We know you want to know, so go…..go….go and check out the park. Before you do, check out their website to see what’s happening. Every weekend is another special educational offering.

A place so fabulous, it got its own entry on the top things to do in Tucson. The Tohono Chul Park Café is one of the quaintest and beautiful spots in Tucson to enjoy breakfast, brunch, or lunch (and even afternoon tea – How cute is that?).

Not only do they serve tasty, affordable food, but the lush desert surroundings are absolutely breathtaking. Sit inside near one of the many windows, or on the patio (we recommend in nice weather) and stare out at the beautiful grounds, amazing flowers, and sweet local wildlife (like the hummingbirds).

It is quiet, relaxing, and tucked away at the edge of Tohono Chul Park. Don’t let the name make you think this place is pretentious, because it certainly didn’t seem that way when we have visited. In fact, the last time was to enjoy brunch with friends and the weather was perfect, the food was great, and we sat on the patio and enjoyed the amazing outdoor space! We recommend you try this place if you have never been there. It is popular and tends to be crowded, so plan accordingly.

The Tea Room

The Tohono Chul Tea Room also offers several amazing settings for private groups. Some just take a reservation, while others may require a fee.
