Spencer’s Observatory

Located near Cat Mountain Station and Cat Mountain Lodge, Spencer’s Observatory is just a few minutes outside of Tucson next to the entrance to Tucson Mountain Park.

The night skies are so vivid in this area of town that it is a great place to see the stars. (we are told this is because the mountain range blocks a lot of the city lights, making the night sky darker and stars and the solar system far more vivid when looking through the telescope’s lens)

This observatory was custom-built and has a retractable roof for a panoramic view of the skies above. The observatory is home to a Celestron 14″ SCT telescope on a GoTo Mount, a 10″ Meade LX200 SCG telescope, as well as a Piggy Back 4″ Stellar View Refractor.

You can have Robby Tackett, a local astronomer, guide a star tour for you and your guests. You can make reservations to have a tour or use their private patio for small gatherings (birthday parties, etc.).

Both guests of the Cat Mountain Lodge and the public can make reservations. Spencer’s observatory has not been open very long and we consider this a hidden treasure in Tucson. This locale will likely become very popular. If you are interested in a tour or a gathering, give them a call.
