Rillito River Park Trail
Can be accessed at several points along the Rillito River bed.
Rillito River Park Trail
Whether you enjoy walking, jogging, skating, or cycling, the Rillito River Park Trail is perfect. Enjoy the beautiful outdoors and be active. The trail stretches 12 miles from its eastern starting point near Craycroft Road to its western starting point under I-10.
Along this 12 mile stretch, there are access points with parking areas at Craycroft, Swan, Brandi Fenton Park off Alvernon, Campbell, Edgewater Drive, by Children’s Memorial Park, at the end of River Fringe Drive, at the end of Shannon Road, and off Camino de la Tierra. The trail is paved asphalt almost all along the 12 miles. The exception is for the stretch between Dodge Boulevard and Campbell Avenue. This is gravel.
For beginner hikers or looking for a relatively level walking surface, the Rillito River Park Trail is a great option. Parks along the way provide a place for the kiddos to play or serve as a nice resting spot. There is also plenty of doggy “bag stations” along the way so your four-legged friends are welcome. The Rillito River Park also has stations to fix up your bicycle should you get a flat tire.
If you need a change of scenery you can utilize one of the many bridges and check out the other side. Be warned, the Southside of the river starts and stops in several places. It is not nearly as paved as the Northside.
Keep On Keeping On
There are no points on the Rillito River Park where you need to cross streets so you can keep right on moving without ever stopping. If you get all the way to the end under I-10 and are still itching to move on, the Rillito River Park Trail meets up with the Santa Cruz River Park Trail so you can keep on going!
Hours for the trail are dawn to dusk. If you come at dusk, be on the lookout for bats waking up to start their day!
