Madera Canyon
Madera Canyon is located about 30 miles south of Tucson outside of Green Valley.

Looking for a quick escape from the heat of Tucson? Be sure to visit Madera Canyon which features four different life zones throughout its hiking trails.

Madera Canyon is known for its variety of levels of hiking trails. There is something for the whole family! Madera Canyon features two handicapped accessible paved trails. They also have paths that vary in difficulty with an expert trail leading to Mt. Wrightson at an elevation of 9,453 feet.

Madera Canyon is also the third best birding destination in the United States! This valley in the Santa Rita Mountains features not only riparian woodland areas but also mesquite and pine forests which allow for a great diversity in birds and wildlife.

If your family is just looking for a short adventure, consider packing up a picnic lunch and utilizing the numerous picnic sites with picnic tables, grills, and nearby facilities.

Or, consider staying overnight in one of the three lodges: the Santa Rita Lodge, the Madera Kubo Cabins, or the Chuparosa Inn B & B. The Bog Springs Campground also has 13 campsites available for tents and RVs if you’d rather “rough it”.

No matter what you choose to do in Madera Canyon your family will have a wonderful time taking in the vegetation, birds, and wildlife!

To visit the Canyon, take I-19 to exit 63 labeled Continental Road and Madera Canyon. Head east on Continental Road until you reach a four way stop. Turn right onto Whitehouse Canyon Road and travel for about six miles. Then turn right onto the paved Madera Canyon Road. Be sure to stop at the Visitor Information Center for maps and current information.
