El Con Mall
El Con Mall is Tucson’s oldest shopping mall and sits on the original site of the historic El Conquistador Hotel. El Con boasts that the mall is central to everyone and no more than 20 minutes away from residents in any direction. It is one of the smaller malls, but does have some big name stores like JC Penney, The Home Depot, Target, Ross, and Burlington Coat Factory. There are also several eateries surrounding El Con Mall including, In and Out Burger, Chick-Fil-A, Rubios Grill, Starbucks, and Claim Jumper restaurant.
There is a movie theater in the mall, Century 20 El Con Theater that was remodeled and now boasts state of the art sound and video including RealD 3D, Digital Cinema, and All Stadium Seating (roomier rows and better view), and XD (ceiling to floor and wall to wall screen).
Overall, there have been some bleak years for El Con Mall, despite its rich history. The mall sits in the middle of one of the oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods in the city. Developers and investors hope to infuse the mall with some new life (and new stores) as the economy improves. The owners hope that local residents will continue to shop and eat at El Con Mall so that they can keep the doors open and return the mall to its former glory. So, the next time you want to grab some eats and take in a movie or want to do some shopping, we recommend you stop by El Con Mall.
