In 1876 John Brackett “Pie” Allen was elected as the 4th. Mayor of Tucson. Following a failed attempt as a gold miner he began making dried apple pies and selling them. His popularity awarded him the nickname Pie Allen. The Pie Allen district benefits from a proximity to the U of A and Fourth Avenue.
Early in Tucsons’ history, railroad families and railroad workers lived here and the architecture of the area still reflects those origins. Many Bungalows, period revivals, Western Colonial and Queen Anne style homes still exist. Pie Allen is a 23- block area of thriving businesses and residents with a passion for life, connectivity and community involvement.
