Although Tucson is famous for the El Tour de Tucson cycling race, do not be discouraged if you prefer to stay on your own two feet instead of wheels. So let’s look at Tucson running events! Tucson has a remarkable running community including a race calendar of over 50 races per year. These races range from marathons to 5Ks. And, even lots of 1-mile non-competitive runs so that runners of all experience levels can participate.

Southern Arizona Roadrunners is the largest running organization in Tucson and sponsors many of the races around town. Becoming a member of SAR includes training plans and group runs. It’s a great way to learn running strategies and meet other runners around town. Participating in running events is one of the healthiest and most rewarding things to do in Tucson!

The Old Pueblo is home to a number of professional runners, some of who have even competed in the Olympics such as Bernard Lagat and Abdi Abdirahman! And, you better believe they love our Tucson running events. These athletes often make appearances at local races and are always willing to chat and give advice. One such event is the Tucson Marathon, which takes place in December. Runners from all over the world come to run this 26.2-mile course. It also happens to be a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.

Another fun race is the Meet Me Downtown Night Run where almost 2,000 people run through the beautiful streets of downtown Tucson. Afterward, you get to see a free movie at the Fox Theatre!
