Tucson Comic Con
One of my new favorite things to do in Tucson each year is the Tucson Comic Con. This convention is held in the Tucson Convention Center (TCC) on the first weekend in November. There is so much going on; you truly owe it to yourself to set a few hours aside to check it all out. I only had an hour and a half this year and I don’t feel that I even saw half of all the amazing sights and sounds this convention has to offer!
Did I mention that the convention was huge! With over two floors of excellently prepared booths and exhibits, it was sensory overload! The upstairs had a mellow, thoughtful vibe while the downstairs was a picture of pure anarchy. There were vendors hawking their wares, costumed heroes and heroines delivering justice, and lots of collectible knick-knacks to commemorate your experience.
But I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my Millennium Falcon experience. I am a huge Star Wars nerd. I can’t wait for the new movie, The Last Jedi. I’m really in love with the new stories and characters. However, they can’t seem to replace the amazing cast of heroes that I grew up with. So I tried to replace them myself, literally, as I sat in the Captain’s chair of a perfect Millennium Falcon model. Let’s just say I’m no Harrison Ford 🙂
Tucson Comic Con – Bring Your Costumes!
The entire crowd was in CosPlay. Everyone was colorful and bouncy and presenting their best selves. There were medieval knight duels, where armor clad contestants battled it out in themed areas. There was even an entire area where actors and celebrities from across the spectrum of Pop Culture were taking picture and signing autographs for adoring fans.
Tucson Comic Con – To The Phone Booth!
I thought it was cute watching all the fan-boys and girls fawn over their heroes until I was reduced to fan-boy status upon entering the Dr. Who Bubble. It was setup like a planetarium with the universe overhead and wondrous sights and sounds beneath. I could have spent the entire day there without even a thought!
Tucson Comic Con – The World Is a Bit Mad
Another really high-point had to be the dystopian Mad-Max inspired reality where I got to dress up as a Road King and be waited on by my loyal servants. I am a huge fan of Mel Gibson’s Mad Max and I even enjoyed the new movie. However, this experience took me to another level. Ruling their little village with an iron fist was one of my most satisfying Things To Do in Tucson.
The Tucson Comic Con was one of the funnest things I’ve done all year! I can’t wait to see what they build next year! Be ready, for the first week in November comes swiftly, and I expect you to be among my legion the next time I take on Tucson Comic Con!
Have a great day!
