Spring Training and AAA baseball may have left Tucson, but professional soccer is alive and well. That is thanks to the FC Tucson soccer club. Its location is the former home of professional baseball in Tucson. FC Tucson has taken over the old North Field at Kino Sports Complex.

In November 2013, the team christened its brand new stadium in grand style upsetting Major League Soccer’s Chivas USA, 1-0! In addition to FC Tucson’s full season schedule of ten games, the club and stadium play host to preseason MLS soccer as well as the Desert Diamond Cup. If you see some familiar faces out there it will be no surprise. Many of FC Tucson’s members have local ties.

MLS preseason and Diamond Cup action take place in the Spring. FC Tucson’s schedule runs from May to the end of July. Game start times vary between 7 pm and 8 pm to try and beat the summer heat. Tickets vary by seat location and you can purchase them on the team website at www.fctucson.com. Children 2 and under are always free.

They encourage fans to sing, chant, and make noise making this the closest you can come to a European soccer experience. No passport required! If you really want to get into the FC Tucson spirit, you can purchase apparel, including scarves (it’s a soccer thing) on their website. So don’t let the absence of professional baseball get you down! There is still a great pro sports entertainment opportunity right here in our backyard.
